Our Co-Conspirator of the Week - Meet Helen Trickey
Meet Helen Trickey, our Conspiracy of Love Managing Partner for Client Services and Impact.
Having worked all over the world with "mega-brands" like Nike, LEGO, The Coca-Cola Company and the United Nations, Helen believes in business as the most effective force for positive change. Heading up Impact at Conspiracy of Love, and managing a group of consultants across 13 timezones, Helen has led world class teams on particularly sticky briefs, like "what is a soda brand's societal role as it relates to reducing sugar consumption, whilst also growing the business?" or "how can you have the most inclusive impact as a sports brand when inclusivity means something different across the 150 countries you show up in?"
She also produced the most watched UN speech in history. You can read about it here.
Helen spends her time between California and the UK, running around outdoors.
We talked with Helen where she looks for inspiration and what she is cooking up this year.
1. What’s a Purpose-driven brand or business you admire and why?
Conspiracy is going through its B Corp Certification renewal process at the moment (shout out to Casey Plasker at Circularly for guiding us through this).
It's given me a renewed appreciation for other companies that have been recognized for reaching the highest standards of societal and environmental impact, whilst also thriving economically.
I try to shop "independent" and B Corp when I can - recent purchases include the brands below. They all have purposes and products I love, from countries that I love.
Snowboarding brand Burton, from the US
Skandinavisk fragrances, from Denmark
Petalon Flowers, in the UK
2. What or who has inspired you most lately why?
I'm going to choose a person/event.
I'm inspired by Gemma Harrison at Camp VC. Camp VC is an outdoor adventure festival for women and women-identifying people in the Welsh hills. Red Bull describes it as a place “where women push boundaries, smash stereotypes, and dance until dawn". No need to say more. I'm completely obsessed.
3. What's one piece of advice you have for Purpose-driven leaders?
I like to remind myself that real change can take a long time, but that we're on the right side of history.
4. What are your passions outside of Conspiracy of Love? What are you planning this year?
Conspiracy is great because my work here is also designed to give me more time and space to develop ideas and projects that are close to my heart, outside of client work. This year I have three personal areas of focus, with projects tied to each.
1. Creating a vision for a better world - what does tomorrow look like?
2. Business growth and positive impact - can the two things really co-exist?
3. Adventure-women in the outdoors - where is my community?
I'll share more when the time comes. Watch this space!
