Our Co-Conspirator of the Week - Meet Marissa Green
Meet Marissa Green, our Conspiracy of Love Co-Conspirator for People, Culture, and Transformation. Marissa specializes in using human-centered design to help companies connect Purpose with business strategy and create purpose-fueled employee experiences. She is also the founder of Work/Life Reimagined and the host of The Reimagine Ambition Podcast - both aimed at helping changing the work/life balance narrative to help working parents go after their dreams without sacrificing their family or well-being.
We talked with Marissa about her tips for purpose-driven leaders, as well as shifting the work/life balance narrative to bring inspiration to parents who want to work and thrive.
1. What Purpose-Driven brands or businesses do you admire and why?
I spent most of my career working in the healthcare industry. I was drawn to healthcare because it was about helping people at the core. Yet I learned that not all companies work with Purpose at the core of their culture or business. Until I worked for Jazz Pharmaceuticals.
My last role was with Jazz Pharmaceuticals, a biopharma company focused on transforming lives through life-changing medicines for patients who often have no other options. Jazz is a company that lives its Purpose through every part of the organization. The employees live and breathe the Purpose, and the emphasis on patients and their families is demonstrated in every meeting and at every decision point. Bruce Cozadd, the CEO of Jazz, taught me what it means to put Purpose at the center of everything - and that when you focus on doing what is right for patients, it’s also good for business.
2. What documentary have you recently watched that inspired you most and why?
My Octopus Teacher (Netflix). It started as another documentary to watch during the pandemic, but it sparked an important discussion in our family about the power of our connection with nature and animals and the job we have to do to protect and respect all life.
3. What's one piece of advice you have for Purpose-driven leaders?
Don’t do it alone. The most successful purpose-driven leaders I have worked with are those who create a movement from within the organization, and who build a village to make powerful things happen in the world. To do that well, it isn’t a one-person, one-function, or even one-company job. It’s about galvanizing support from fellow internal leaders, building partnerships with external change makers, and creating a workforce of Purpose champions all focused on a common goal to advance Purpose together.
4. What are your passions outside of the Conspiracy of Love? Tell us more about Work/Life Reimagined.
I’m highly focused on advocating for the needs of working parents and creating a society where parents have the support they need to thrive in both careers and parenthood, without burning out. I have two kiddos (5 and 8) and learned first-hand how difficult it is to manage a career and kids in an always-on world. So, when I’m not working with Conspiracy of Love, I spend my time podcasting, speaking, and coaching to help parents and companies design an intentional work/life strategy that fully supports parents.
I'm also the host of The Reimagine Ambition Podcast, which was born out of a desire to create a community for ambitious parents who want to go after their dreams without sacrificing their family or well-being. The podcast is full of real-life stories and expert opinions meant to inspire ambitious parents to define work and life on their own terms. There is no “right way” to do this, only the way that is best for you and your family.
